How about the guitar set ups for "Country Pie" circa '00?
The sound was soooooo good on that tune. 2:28 of pure guitar tone bliss.

Right! But any details, pickups, specific models, amps, effects, etc.
You're talking to a big guitar geek here.

Dude, you're the effing man!

Do you know which of those pedals Charlie used to get that "sawtooth" distortion sound?

Well I guess the only way to find out is to research each of those pedals individually!

Do you by chance have any other information on Larry and Charlie's guitars/rigs?

Larry uses a Vox AC30 and here's some information he gave me on it when I emailed him:

"Well, I'm not locked in to a particular setting, but usually keep the tone controls about even (50 to 75% up), and the "Cut" control varies according to which guitar I'm using and the sound of the room. I always plug into the Top Boost channel and keep the volume just above the point where the speaker breaks up a little and rely on pedals for real distortion. The problem though is that these amps all sound a little different and we usually rent them when we do a tour so I have to do some minor tweaking each time"

He uses his Vox AC30 Custom Classic Reissue for Guitar and a Blackface Fender Twin Reverb Reissue for Pedal Steel.

Charlie uses two Vox AC30s.
One, I believe to be from the 1970s and the other is a Custom Classic Reissue. He possibly uses two depending whether using a clean or top boost channel though I cannot confirm that.

Um, call me an idiot, but why wouldnt you go w/ the obvious choice of Strat? There doesnt seem to be anything un-Strat like about it (aside from the pickguard ending a bit early, which may just be the angle).......is there another picture? What're you seeing that I'm not?

The pickups are lipstick pickups. I can't find any close-ups of it, but I'm pretty sure it's not an actual Fender. He used this one on Rolling Stone and some other songs I can't remember off the top of my head.

Seeing as Sexton is a guitar geek, it would not be unheard of that he would change his pickups. Lipsticks on a Strat arent really that uncommon. Stevie Vaughan was known to play on one time to time, and Charlie was a longtime friend of his......

Once again Josepi - great work. Thanks for sharing this info.

BTW - Freddie was mentioned earlier in this thread.
Of all the recent Dylan guitarists, I found him to have the most distinctive guitar style & tone.
I saw him w/ Bob in Detroit on Jack White night - St. Patty's in '04 (wow its been 5 years!!! - where does the time go?), and he used a faded red strat for just about the entire show.
Any additional info. on his '04 setup?

Thanks for this info Josepi. I'll refer to it so I can ID the guitars by name. I also don't know the dif btwn a violin and a viola. I think Pagel and Olof each list both but I don't know what the difference is.

Pedals - Boss Blues Driver (2009)

Denny Freeman
Amplifiers - Fender '59 Bassman (used variously through years with Bob, sometimes replacing his Tungsten Bassman on stage)
Pedals - (As of 2009, Denny is using two unknown pedals, one of which is a standard compact size - Most likely a Boss Pedal)

Stu Kimball
Guitars - Gretsch G6128TDS-R Duo Jet (with Bigsby and DynaSonic pickups - Some knobs removed though it is visible where the knobs have been taken off) (2009)

Good info, realy would like to have a stage pic.

Could it be a modded Bluesdriver, as it sounds different than the regular.

I think it's quite hard to say that it doesn't sound like regular simply because it's all down to the setting on the amp, guitar and the pedal as well.

Thanks for all the detective work, Josepi! Appreciated!

Can you confirm that the change to the Duesenberg guitar for Bob was made at the Munich show? In Berlin he played the Gibson Custom ES-175, in Munich a Duesenberg. Don't know about Erfurt. I read he did not play guitar in Erfurt after encountering a technical problem with the instrument at the start of Man In The Long Black Coat, but which guitar was set up on stage?

Also you list two different Duesenbergs in this thread. Were both guitars used or is it only the Duesenberg DTV Starplayer TV listed at the top?

Furthermore do you know the maker/model of Tony's upright bass? I remember some time ago I noticed a German language maker's paper label on (inside?) the upright bass he was using at the time. I do not know if he used different upright bass guitars over the years or if has always the same instrument.

He's used various uprights throughout the years. His most recent switch was I believe 07, it looked like he began using one w/ a smaller body. Not sure what this one is, I asked, but we moved onto something else before he answered...
More then likely I would say its pre 1950

The problem wasn't with the guitar itself but rather with the strap that fell off from the bottom of the guitar when Bob was taking it up, that's why he returned to the piano.
Anyway, the Gibson seemed very large for Bob to play, we all know he's not the biggest guy in the world  , so the other one might have been easier to handle.
