Critics and the general public hated it. Dylan fans loved it. If you like Bob I'm sure you'll think it's worth the money spent.

I agree with the first response. Critics and others didnt "get it" there fore it sucked. If you like Dylan, you'll love the film, and all the big names. Jeff Bridges, John Goodman tc....are all great! Def. worth the $14.99 or whatever dvds usually cost!!

'Masked and Anonymous' is GREAT! It's worth it for the performance footage alone. The story may get a little stretched at times, but this view into Dylan's mind is just like a visual version of 'Desolation Row' or '115th Dream' - It's really that good.

It's atrocious! Great band performances though, which are very well filmed too, so it's worth seeing for the music. But, oh dear...someone should have put the brakes on this terrible train wreck of a film - or at least stuck more to the nutty script, now that may have been something. Or perhaps not. Watch and wince.

he pretty much plays himself in the film, which by the way is worth buying. i would rent it first, because you might think it's awful. it definelty has to be viewed by someone who is a dylan fan.

the supporting actors are excellent (especially jeff bridges) and the music is awsoem

as a cinema student i think i can look at this film in a fairly balanced and unjudgemental way. ok so im a huge dylan fan and as a result i love the bits where we are given up front performances from bob and the boys. But the rest of the film is far too cryptic and seeped in dylan mythology for most people to get anything from it and i think its fair to say that dylans acting is poor at best, although he still manages to look cooler than most of the other performers. Bob is clearly trying to convey the idea that everyone hides behind a mask and as a result i feel that dylan fans will be given a window into his mind through watching this picture, although i think its fair to say that it is hugely inaccesible to your average joe. I dont think it is anything to be taken too seriously although people will find thier own level of involvement, seeking hidden meanings that perhaps werent intended to be there, hell i think bob was just tryin to throw his cards into the air like always. personally i think all dylan fans should watch it just so see thier idol in over his head for once, although i dont believe it is a landmark by any stretch of the imagination in dylans career

This was a pretty cool movie. I thought it had some really dark and prophetic messages. If you are a real Dylan fan, how can you miss the point? Dylan doesn' t do things unless there's some point and it would be ludicrous to think otherwise, why do you think all these actors were lining up to be in the movie. Dylan seems to float through this movie almost like a ghost since his character is so surreal. However I agree it is strictly a cult classic without much mainstream merit. Who cares. It gets my Oscar.

I think everyone is just about right in their critique of the movie. If you're a Dylan fan, you'll probably like the movie. If not, it my come a cross as a little odd, defintely steeped in a lot of "Dylan mythology."

I don't understand why it would be cryptic. To me it's a pretty straight foward picture of what is coming down the road our society is on.

I love the film. While quite a few critics didn't, Salon gave it a rave review and the film actually made it to a few "Best Of The Year" lists. I'm glad I spent $20 on the DVD and plan to watch it at least once a year for the rest of my days.
