Does anybody remember since when incence has been lit on stage? I'm sure it's been used from '98 onwards, but I don't remember any Nag Champa from '91 or '95 ( first shows I've been to).

Clouds of it in the air in Rochester, Nov. 2004. Much of it may have been from the audience.

Well...thank you, but that doesn't answer my question :) (When did they start this on the NET?!). By the way I saw Odetta in concert in '96, and she had stuck a stick of incense in the fretboard of her guitar!

First time I recall the nag burning was the 1997 tour.

Really? I had no idea. Is this documented in any particular way?

The nag champa makes for a powerful sense-memory; I think it's a brilliant production decision on Bob's (or whoever's) behalf.

Yes, Chris. They put the nag champa sticks behind the drums for the first time in Prague 95 since Dylan was ill that day (and had already cancelled the show one day earlier). He seemed to like it ...

Anyone miss the Nag Champa ritual? I do.

I thought we established the LAST Nag Champa date hERe too, but I forget.
It was certainly pre-The Set days...

---
Edit: maybe not...

Some clues here: Last Nag date circa 2010/11?:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=67201&hilit=nag+champa

And a redundant thread here with a lower-case champa:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=52268&hilit=Nag+champa

It seems like Nag left with the Aaron Copeland pre-show background music & the "forced folk into bed with rock" intro.
Right around then.

But no definite "last Nag Champa show date" found yet...

Someone here knows...

I'd say that's accurate..I can't name the exact era either, but I'd guess circa 2010 as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed all of that with the spoken intro, the Nag, the Fanfare theme (and then the later, darker one..I recognize it too but don't know the name off hand).

Recently got into incense around the house occasionally, and the Nag Champa reminds me of that every time. Scent is the strongest time machine..

Nag Champa added a unique atmosphere. There is something about olfactory expectation that can't be beaten.

I seem to recall it in 2009 at the United Palace shows. Anyone know where one can get a bucket like that? I've only been able to find those sticks and they don't seem to as much. I want to fill my house with that smell.

Nevermind, check here

I do remember it in 95 fall...don't remember it in 1994 at all. So the Prague thing makes sense. I do remember it at United Palace show in NYC but it hadn't been around previously for a bit. I do not however remember it at the Terminal 5 shows. I went to 3...and it would be surely something I would have picked up on because it is one of my staple dylan things. Perhaps it appeared on a one-off on the show(s) i did not attend?

I recall the Atlantic City shows in 99 where the folks hoped up on the stage ...that the bucket was on the brink of overwhelming in such a small setting. At one point even Tony was sho-flying it away from his senses.

I do love it. I do miss it. But that doesn't stop me burning it.

i am not going to go around saying 'nog chomp-a' or 'nug chump-a'. It must be closer to the French /a/ (pronounced [a])

A bubble machine seems better suited for the coming Triplets tour anyway.

I am going to refer to the new album as 'Triplets' in ER discussions from now on.

Nag champa - for me this means I will soon see Bob Dylan. I might light some now.

Can't believe it's gone now. I haven't seen him since 2008.
