Bonjour,

Jenna Ponette

I'm very sorry to hear that. His tribute to the TTRH thread was huge. I shall miss him.

I am so very sorry to learn this. He made a huge contribution to this board and will be missed. Probably those family members and personal friends mourning him in Belgium have no idea how many Theme Time fans from around the world he had touched with his diligence, humor, and vast knowledge of mid-Century American music. Rest in peace, Picasso. I hope you've found a honky tonk in the sky.

May he rest in peace :( Got to know him over at Croz's (original) site back when TTRH first started up. What a nice guy, always willing to help out

That is very sad news. I always enjoyed reading his Theme Time bits. Peace for him and his family.

I will miss him very much. I was just thinking that I was looking forward to seeing his posts on Season 3 after I saw his placeholder post a few days ago. Somewhere up in heaven, he's probably already busy cataloging the complete output of the Heavenly Choir.

God speed, Picasso.

For those whose ability to read French is as limited as my own, here's a rough translation of the email in English...

---

It is with deepest sorrow that I announce the death of my dad, Pierre Ponette. He passed away Wednesday, September 3 in his sleep, following a cerebral aneurysm. His funeral will take place this Saturday September 13, at the church Saint-Martin de Frasnes-Lez-Buissenal at 11 a.m. I've attached the announcement of the funeral.

I'm sorry to announce this by e-mail. I obtained your address from his mail account, and I know he appreciated you enormously.

Yours sincerely, Jenna Ponette

That is terrible news. He was a major contributor to this board and a major source of information. Very sad to see him go, and he didn't even get a taste of Season 3.

My thoughts are with his family, and I appreciate the fact that they were thoughtful enough to have sent out an email to notify his online friends, of which he had many.

I really was shocked when I red this message because for the first time on the net real life came and went in a second. I never met him, never saw anything bout him exept his smiling face on a stamp sized picture, never heard the sound of his voice but I remember his presence on this forum cause he was the one I was familiar with, his messages, his knowledge and interests and something from outta web : kindness also. Cause he must have been a great person. You could see it by the way he talked to the people, always polite and there for a good reason. He was the man we'd like to always find on a forum you know, the interest and existance of forums depends on men (or women) like him.
So, yes... for the first time I felt a deep lost inside reading and realizing he was gone by accident. Some people have hundreds of friends on facebook, some people spend their whole day chatting and surfing over the net, some people don't know it exists, Picasso brought humanity and always friendship with his messages, morever, the smell of reality and freshness.
We had one friend in Belgium, sharing his passion with us, our passion for music outta time and deep into our minds. His contribution was usefull here and he was for sure a great great member of this Theme time community ; just like the voice of Dylan waving through the night, I'll get the smile of Picasso the next time I'll turn up my radio.

Point your speakers loud to the stars the next season, there's a couple of ears waitin' for dreams, schemes and themes...

Au revoir Picasso !

Romain from France.

I'm very, very sorry to hear that, and I send my sincerest condolences to the family! We are many zealous seekers of knowledge on this board (nerds, if you will), and a lot of us truely enjoy the socialization surrounding, and springing from this search. All I know of Picasso from Belgium is that he was a seeker of the highest order and of the highest zeal. With his trademark humor and wit, he did as much to illuminate and archive the music and sources of TTRH as anybody. God bless him!

oh this is hard, I can't believe it
his emails were little treasures in my inbox,
was glad to know him on any level, to read
his posts and have him share his due diligence...

Was looking forward to time reading him almost as much
as Theme Time itself. There are a few of you here
that I feel that way about since Theme Time started.
It has to happen to all of us but I'm crying anyway---
I'll always remember the Santa Monica Civic date now,
Sept 3, 2008 Farewell, Pierre

Wish his family peace and strength.
How kind of his daughter to let us know.
O I just don't like this at all
what a summer this has been

sent him an email to ask how he was doing & what
was up after the break had gone on quite a while and
the next day he posted all that stuff up.....
hope we can have it stick for a while, hope Bob plays one for
our friend

Really sorry to hear this - sympathies to all his family & friends

I was looking forward to resuming correspondence with Pierre when the new TTRH series starts - for the last year or more, he would let me have his researched track-list and then follow it up with any corrections etc, and would also contribute other suggestions for the artwork I was doing for the show each week.

Long may his work remain posted here for the benefit of all !

I'm so very sad to hear this, like so many I looked forward to the fruits of Pierre's research here each week, the start of season 3 will not be the same without him - my thoughts are with his family.

This is a major loss for the TTRH section and an even bigger loss for his friends & family, I guess. Thanks for everything, Picasso. RIP.

Picasso was so generous with his knowledge, time and patience. He answered several questions of mine and was most congenial. He will be missed so much. Condolences to his family and friends.

What sad news indeed! Thank you kindly Fred for your translation, that was very helpful to me and I am grateful you took the time to post. You are a very thoughtful person!

My feelings go out to his family and it was a very kind act of his daughter to send the email and for Karl to post it. I am very very shocked by the news, I have not logged on here much since Theme Time Radio Hour went into hiatus... I am just shocked at this news..... Picasso from Belgium you will be missed, may you rest in peace, you touched many lives with your generous contributions to this message board and your fellow fans.
